“The path here was rough. It was filled with pain and grief and sacrifices. Heartache and sorrow and utter exhaustion. But there is no one I would rather have gone through this life-changing journey with than these six people. I have felt alone and unwanted for most of my life. But now, here, I finally feel at home.”

“Because she’s right.
Turning slightly, I gaze out at all of my friends. I lost my family to the Icehearts. Isera did as well. Alistair lost his family in a different way when they shunned him for having fire magic. Orion has never had anyone he can trust. None of us has a real family.
So we made our own.”

And so dies Empress Jessina Iceheart.
In pain and despair.
And with my blade, stained by fish guts, buried in her heart.
I scream in victory.

I yank up my hand.
And slam my dagger right into Jessina’s heart.
We crash into the ground.

“Selena!” Draven screams, his voice breaking with fear and panic.
“I’m sorry,” I reply.
Then I close the union bond and leap off his body.
