As the story progresses it’s very interesting to try and understand what was Joyce’s intention when writing this book. Was it to show the grandiose of the everyday? Perhaps it as to satirize heroes and godly triumphs? It’s so sarcastic at times that it’s hard not to think so

No idea what’s happening in this episode. Something about a press and going to the bar and some newspaper boys shouting about some race idk. Should I give up

Today I went to a book club to discuss the first six episodes of Ulysses.
I realized that being in a book club is kind of like watching a movie at the cinema rather than at home. It’s a completely different experience.
I now have a much better understanding of what is happening in this book and I am excited to read more of it

Maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention but I barely know what happened here either. I also was less impressed with the writing here. But I love that bloom has a cute little kitten

I read somewhere that when James Joyce was writing this, his wife could overhear him giggling to himself.
This chapter was pretty difficult to read and I wouldn’t be surprised if many people drop it here.
I have a pretty good idea how to summarize the first two chapters but this one was filled with made up words, prose and vocabulary that made it so bard to follow. Something about the beach? Murder?
