The language is very accessible and there is a lot of political scheming and investigating (as well as could be done in those times), which illuminates the setting well. But there isn't much to it apart from that whodunnit riddle, politics and some smaller side-plots. I was hoping for some literary flare, but it's absent - it's all about finding the murderer

Listening to an audiobook - so far, it's a fun whodunnit and I'm very much enjoying the historical setting and the cast of characters. It's quite light in tone and the narration being rendered in letters makes it more intimate and personable
