the beginning chapter comparing the media reactions and journalistic bias between the mccann case vs shannon matthews is honestly so heartbreaking
the later section regarding thatcher really makes me want to research more on her and her policies that destroyed the lifes of so many people of the “underclass”

note points of the collective working class being mischaracterised/ caricatured also mentioned earlier on in reference to little britains vicky pollard - played by men who went to private school and have no understanding of the world of the people they are laughing at
- edit and extend my essay about identity politics being necessary for emancipation yet socially imprisoning

He condemns Alibhai-Brown for hypocrisy as she calls herself a writer of the left but rejects chav’s because of their collective racism.
Why is it down to the victims of white working-class’s misdirected anger to understand and allow that behaviour? It isn’t “liberal bigotry” but rather an understandable reaction to years and years of racist riots, exclusion and oppression.

as the book progresses the writing becomes increasingly descriptive; evidence to basic explanation to another quotation to another explanation. a lot of words that manages to say little.
in trying to comment on the demonisation of the working class as the chav caricature he condemns them to the same title. using chav and working class as interchangeable doesn’t work as a piece of criticism like intended
