Americans hold off the British attack fairly well but are overpowered by them. Americans were terrified of the blue coats.

Red coats were far more professional compared to the rebels, but were still green to battle.
Howe sneaks 10,000 men up to the American lines.

A destructive storm hits New York and the following day the British invade. Loyalist welcome them and the British are surprised that how affluent the Americans on Long Island are. 20,000 British troops on Long Island a few days after landing and Howe still hasn’t committed. Washington considers he may not have the ability.

General Howe sends delegate to Washington with a letter not properly addressed. Washington puts on the political act and refuses. Howe is pissed. 400 ships and over 30,000 Brits arrive by August. American spirit is still high even with diseases rampant. They set up so intensely that I’ve British attack would suffer many casualties. Late August, a spy reports the British are about to attack.

British in high spirits. Many Americans coming to their side. Women were not safe from them as they (American deserters) constantly raped and ravished.

High tension regarding the potential appearance of British fleet. Plot to kill Washington, one was convicted, others were made to “ride the rail”. June 29th, 100+ ships appeared. New York is bustling. Declaration of Independence drafted on July 2nd. New motivation for the US. British test New York by sailing towards NJ, Americans were embarrassingly underprepared.

After Washington and his army arrived in mid April 1/3 of the city left fearing war. Many buildings were left on occupied or occupied by the army. The holy ground was the most troublesome area with aggression and over 500 prostitutes. A week after the army arrived two soldiers were found mutilated in the holy ground. Officers sent to bring order couldn’t distinguish soldiers from citizens without uniforms. Smallpox

The army marches very efficiently to New York being hosted by very gracious people on the way. New York is a completely different ball game to what Boston was. It’s filled with mostly loyalists and some Dutch. Washington fears that without a strong navy the British could easily take the city from the water alone. Washington view New York is the most sinful city in America. Europeans noted the amount of slaves.

Aftermath of Dorchester. Brits flee, Washington is a hero, Americans morale at an all time high but still cautious that the embarrassment they gave the British could make them even worse. The army in Boston now mobilises for New York.

In aftermath of when the Americans took Dorchester heights, the Loyalists were forced to evacuate. Not prepared at all for this, Howe put everyone on ships, leaving everything behind. They sailed down the coast out of range of cannons and bobbed back and forth there for days. Howe had the redcoats rob anything of value in Boston, accusing retaliatory as abettors of the rebels. After 10 days, they sailed to Halifax.
