It's hard to tell the crooks from the good guys. That's what Sandford is really good at. His villains get some sympathy.

One of the agents Lucas is working with is a woman named Chase who says this about Lucas: ". . . Lucas can be the snake. He's good at that."

Bernie is suspected of being a plant on Lucas's team. Lucas and Sherwood search his apartment.

Lucas talks to various "Russian" agents about the hit team. Nothing yet.

Sherwood (an FBI agent?) talks to Lucas about what the Marshal's service does.

Sokolov, the Russians stool pigeon, is shot up, but he's still alive. Lucas's Porsche is destroyed during the gun battle.

The Russians plan an attack for when the feds plan to move Solokov, the rogue Russian agent who's spilling his guts to the Americans.

The FBI disses Lucas. Lucas disses them, so it's tit for tat.

Sandford rotates between the good guys and the bad guys. Very rarely do the antagonists get as much page time as they do in Sandford's books. Titov and Abramova are the bad guys in this one. Abramova is a woman.
Sandford will have you siding with the villains at times. That's how well they're drawn.

After the gun battle, Lucas thinks the Russians didn't go far. They needed a doctor.
