i’m enjoying the characters’ depth at the school. there’s a few girls that actually wanna talk and meet her outside of the drama. she had to put on a show of a tea ceremony which was funny. i’m keeping my eye on antagonists and different elements that may relate to the twist of the book! fav quote from session: “You cannot control the wind, but you can control your sails” (103).

mercy faces racist comments and the anti chinese/asian society of 1906 america. she’s building herself opportunity; she made a deal to have an appt with the dean of admissions of the pristine white girls school. also her father is lowkey anti feminist talking about how “wives should be meek” but he also wants her to keep learning (there’s no hs in chinatown san fran) but not at the “white ghosts school”
