sorry this is just incredibly dull i have to be honest. going into it i did know that this was mostly just descriptions of food so maybe it's on me for expecting more but??? did it win the international booker prize just for the metanarrative concept?? idk how I feel about this man, I’m not hating it but the meta fictional nature of it + the abundance of footnotes make this a semi-tedious read for my
taste personally and the biggest problem I’m facing atm is just how annoying aoyama is as a main character obviously meant to connote the role of the “polite and curious coloniser”.
