having the girl who can’t read look at books for their salvation is frying me so bad like why is she even doing this. it makes the plot kinda inconsistent like why is she able to figure out this thing that no one else has when she can’t even read? why is she even unable to read in the first place?

sometimes i fear that some people have never experienced the ocean before because why is she drowning and sinking so fast? what happened to her being a strong swimmer?

there’s a lot of anachronistic language in the book and it makes it read very juvenile. “my heart almost fell out of my ass” “i crashed out on the bed”
