Till the half of the book there is an exploration of relationship between Anne and Will - second generation of characters .
After marriage they find out they are quite opposite , it turns to rivalry.
Despite passion there is rivalry in their relationship, different views on things , Will wants unity , Anne wants independence . They have different needs despite loving each other. Really intense marriage. Not calm .

First chapters of the book history of marriage between Tom and Lidia Brangwen. Initially their relationship is purely driven by attraction and emotional attachment , and they don’t truly understand each other on deeper levels . Love ≠understanding, but love and effort can help work on relationship to make it more mature. They learn to accept each other for who they are.

28 year old man falls in love with 34 year old woman who has a child from previous marriage and proposes to her… yeah, all of that by the way, happens in first chapter ;)
