Pardon! (see I can do it too!) why on earth would Chatine have a deep seated hatred for a little girl (Madeline) whose father gave her a doll in front of Chatine in an Inn?!? Was Chatine staring at this doll in a window day and night for months? In the story we are given the girl appears one day with her dad and is given a gift. Chatine for some reason has a full blown tantrum, are we supposed to feel bad for her?

You can do a Les mis retelling without cramming in random French words and French spellings of words in a place where french is definitely is not being spoken and is about as far from France, not to mention the planet earth, as you can be.
