This is making me think a lot of Randy Shilts’ “And the Band Played On.” a similar approach, to the point where I was looking up samples of the latter book online for comparison: he doesn’t literally go day by day as she often tries to, what more seasonally. Certainly linear, but with the same room for digression and anecdote, and movement between persons and place.

June 15, 1692 - Wednesday, Boston. Bridget Bishop hanged June 10. I'm not really sure what happened. It was all so fast. There were so many of them deposed and jailed at this point. Why was she the first to be hanged?
