Chapter 4 details an (extremely long) speech from a confederate not to platform their bullshit but to meitculously point out the lie of "states' rights" as a reason for the Civil War. Rhodes makes it clear white supremacy was at the core of the confederate cause and that white supremacy was rooted in the desire pathetic people to feel better and more important than someone else. Not much has changed there.
