All the talk of mists and fog and the eternal haze. Such a good worldbuilding detail for a post-apocalyptic world. Of course there are the sunken cities beneath the risen ocean, and now the mention of the former ice caps.
I just finished another climate disaster book, and it's amazing that this was written 50 years before that.

Huh. I didn't know about averted night vision. It seems like a basic area of biology that I *should* have known. I certainly learnt that eyes have photoreceptor rods and cones. But I didn't know that we have no dim light detecting rods in the center of our vision, which makes peripheral vision better at night! Clearly, our modern world is too bright.
