First 50 or so pages were slow going, but once Quoyle moved to Newfoundland it seemed like an entirely different book, one I really enjoyed. If the weather in Newfoundland is indeed as described by Proulx, all I can say is I’m glad I don’t live there. The only time I was in Newfoundland was July 8 - July 9, 1995. Weather was lovely, but we couldn’t leave the St John’s airport, so know nothing of the country.
