Wanted to add on to my last comment. No Country felt more like a commentary on the people of a bygone era. Ed Tom Bell wasn’t fit for the new world of killers, but it was still a western in the sense that it had people experiencing a new world changing around them. Pretty Horses seems, to me at least, like more of a commentary of the overall death of the west, i.e. mention of old native tribes and trains moving in.

I know I’ve said it before but the way McCarthy writes is so awesome. Even though this is the first book of his I’ve really delved into he might be my favorite author

That talk Grady had with the great aunt might be the most fascinating literary conversation I’ve ever read. Made me want to reread Blood Meridian which is something I didn’t think I’d say so soon.

“What do you want to know? he said.
Only what the world wants to know.
What does the world want to know.
The world wants to know if you have cojones. If you are brave.” Fuuucckkk that’s so good dude. That entire conversation was amazing

McCarthy is really good at writing about environments. It’s just so hard not to get immersed in this book when he writes like this

Shits getting real now. They’re going back north, but did they commit a crime or anything? I honestly might’ve missed that. I know they ran away but did they steal anything before they left? Idk but this is still an amazing book. Annoying to translate all the Spanish sometimes cause it takes me out of the novel but it’s still so beautiful and immersive.
