Wow the several page Carina Press plug by the publisher's editorial director before the book is fucking obnoxious. It plugs all the books out from the publisher this month - wow lucky that won't date at all. I'd be open to reading this kind of thing AFTER the book I've paid to read, but it's intrusive as all hell to have this title pushing dreck before the author's dedication, let alone the story itself.

I'm not into rando sex when things are going to shit, but I am into rando decapitations by the heroine whenever it's called for.

I did like the callback to Lindy's thoughts at the beginning of the story.

Well that wasn't a shock, but it definitely complicates things for the Mama Mo...

I do like Lindy being in such a commanding position with Gabriel. As does he, by the sounds of it.

I really do like how everyone's sexuality seems to be so fluid in this world, but my fear for this series is that it won't have anything more than lip service in this direction. I'd love for some actual M/M or F/F action on this ship in future books.

That's a convenient death for a potential third relationship. Or am I reading into things?

I love how at least two of the major characters are bi. Also a lot of other sexual diversity hinted at, on top of the diverse origins of the cast. All the characters seem to just get shit done too, the romance is there but not so overwhelmingly distracting that they can't also shoot things.

This is more fun than I'd anticipated, even though I don't go much on heavy romance. The ship and its (diverse!) crew are intriguing, not to mention the story passes the Bechdel Test (sadly not that common in short genre ebooks). SFR readers would probably dig this.
