What the fuck was he crying about anyway? He never cried. After what he'd been through, nothing was worth his tears. No trial or tragedy could make Fen il-Kheir break down. Nobody fucked with his autonomy or his agency and no one made him do anything he didn't want to.
No one except Pelippé Trueblood.

😩🫠 oh this is gonna be delicious 🤌🤌

Trueblood went on talking. "It also means what happened is mine to protect. You have a door inside you that read Arcodolori. I stand in front of it now. I forgive you everything that happened inside and if anyone else wants to go in there and judge, they have to come through me first."
Fen cried hard. A short but violent storm that left a damp patch on the kepten's shirt.

Their hands touched, closing around the bit of silver for a breath in. A breath out.
Fen looked away, biting his lip. "Did you look for me while I was gone?"
Trueblood nodded. "I didn't like not being able to find you."

A story asks for little. Really all it wants and needs is a listener.
Fen's tale is his to tell, and he has his reasons for not telling. Among them is a lack of sympathetic ears.
[...]This is but a fragment of Fen's story, legantos. If he can live it, we can hear it.
We can listen to learn it. Learn it to tell it. Tell it to teach it.

😭😭 Sobfest number 2, coming right in 😭

If the needle of Raj's compass turned in all directions, Lejo's only pointed to right and wrong. He led his brothers away from trouble not worth their time, guiding them toward trouble they could fix.
[...]His needle had a keen edge for stray animals. Kepten True drew a firm line against pets on the ship, so Lejo was always bereft when they set sail.

Precious baby, I love Lejo 😭😭

Ooh my dear Frog, do I have a treat for you 😳 I'm not sure how you go with litfic, it's certainly not my preferred genre, but this author? Masterful writer, my exception to everything I usually read. If you ever feel the need to have your brain chemistry changed on a profound level, pick up either The Great Dane, or the Venery series ❤️
This book is a fantasy but still very much an essential part of Venery, so it really shouldn't be read as a standalone 🥺
