ALSO, i love this cover. and there's the version where the back is the inverse in color--black background, orange text "GEEK LOVE". it's so striking while telling you nothing about the book. actually, it misleads, leaning into the double meaning of "geek," which i have learned was a carnival act in which someone bit the heads off of living chickens, not just someone obsessed with a niche hobby. this book has a large following but imagine picking this up thinking it would be a nerdy romance.

i really should be feeling this book more. i was raised on a series of unfortunate events--those books are filled with weird children AND adults. and one of the books takes place in a carnival. but idk, sumn's not clicking. or it's clicking, but it's clicking down.

just read a comment about arty being one of the greatest villains of all time, which makes complete sense but also isn't where i expected the novel to go based on the blurb and the 75 pages i read. i did not expect this to be a book with villains. might have to tap back into this sooner than i expected.
