This is one of those fantasy novels with anachrontistic writing. The world is not modern yet the FMC uses modern slang and speaks in a modern way. The FMC seems very naive in a way that doesn't make sense in a world with dangerous sorcerers. She expects a stranger to help save her sister who stole from a dangerous sorcerer and is now cursed to die in a month. It's not a noble cause.

I should be enjoying this book but I'm not. Everything feels flat--the characters and world-building. There is no tension. And I'm not buying the romantic tension between the FMC and the "assassin". And the world-building is confusing. Sigh...I wanted this to be a fun read.

This is mh least favorite type of FMC. She's naive but doesn't realize it. Ans she is not listening to the professional she hired to help her. She is putting other people in jeopardy. I also dislike that she embarked on this impossible task with NO PLAN!

Another 20 pages read and I am having to seriously suspend my disbelief. Zaira thinks she can survive a journey to an area so dangerous that no one has survived it. She takes two steps out of the city and almost dies because she didn"t listen to the person she hired to keep her alive. It's like me going into the Amazon with just a backback and hope. I have zero wild wilderness survival skills.
