“Black and white wouldn’t have been truthful,” I answer. “Because if the truth is you and how I feel about you, then it has to be colourful. My life before you—Spearcrest before you—that was black and white. But you… you’re yellow—sorry, ochre—and blue”—I point at the lines I painted around my eyes—“and green and purple and orange. You’re light and colours and life.”
