The author of this book uses characters as being real people who are in trial for a crime just as in real life. The time is being on the present and a case is being taken place. The author uses a style as being a script for a movie therefore it is easier for me to keep up knowing who is talking and the setting of the place. The book so far is interesting and I could actually imagine these people being in front of me.

"...me being his son and him being my dad, is pushed down and something else moving up in its place. It's like a man looking down to see his son and seeing a monster instead."-pg. 116. I find this golden gem interesting because it is depressing for Steve to know that his father is crying and is his fault. It is hard for Steve to accept his father crying and feels more guilty because of that than for what he is trial.

"I see that Miss O'Brien meant when she said part of her job was to make me look human in the eyes of the jury" I chosed this golden gem because it represents how prisoners are viewed as something else rather then human. Some people argued that criminals are worthless animals. This is how Steve is looked at but he has to act like he is a normal person that is free and not in jail. I think this is an important quote.
