The book is not bad, it's just obviously written by someone who studied writing. The sentences are very "constructed". I find myself forgetting the plot after I take a break, though for all intents and purposes it is interesting.

I almost feel bad for the comment, given I'm working on writing a novel myself. It's clear that the author put a lot of thought and work into it.
