dessie and tom all within a few pages!! tom’s death really tore me up and the way john steinbeck personified his insecurities so upfront and direct really emphasised exactly how tom was feeling, insane work.

i’m back. this book is hard to get back into. a lot of it is background and character description that it can sometimes feel like that is all the book is going.

also,not loving the name ‘the chinese’ to refer to a character.
