Very fascinating book. Truly makes you understand the Japanese people during the war. I guess you could say the common people were just following the orders. The institutional power at hand the imperials created this population deluded by grand honor temporarily. As some people in the book noted they didn't know why they acted the way they did. They just thought the doing it would be good for the emperor.
