Obvi the change from first person pov to third person limited from Annihilation to this book took a mo’ to adjust, but there is an easy quality to the prose in Authority that keeps me reading. So far the story may have been focusing more on the protagonist than any actual plot, but I don’t particularly mind since the character backstory does seem relevant to the general narrative
