Really impressed. Keller's writing is diaphanous enough that even though his actual subject matter is dryly material (finances, social issues) the total effect is nevertheless airy; every transaction, notarization, and dusty committee meeting is aglitter in a perpetual evening light.

Reading this because of (1) W.G. Sebald's terrific essay — panegyric, really — on Keller, with special focus on his political and cultural prescience, and (2) as part of an attempt to rectify my lifelong, baseless neglect of realist fiction.
