Haymitch remembers Lenore as older now and as someone who has grown up with him. He tells Peeta and Katniss about Maysilee who was the owner of the mockingjay pin. He reflects on how Katniss has stopped the sun from rising on reaping day. The capitol can no longer do what they had been doing again.

Haymitch recounts the death of Lenore and keeps seeing ghosts as well. He starts drinking to forget although he never will. Effie finds him and tells him they need to get ready for the victory tour. Plutarch tells him he’s exactly who they need for the rebellion. Haymitch dismisses him and tells him that is pathetic. Haymitch reflects on eveything and remembers Sid telling him happy birthday on reaping day.

Haymitch goes on countless tours with the capitol. He gets back to district 12 to see that his house is on fire and that Ma and Sid die with it. All three other tributes from 12 are buried along with Ma, Sid and Wyatt Callow’s dad who killed himself after
seeing his dead son. Haymitch goes far away so he’s not around 12 so much. He runs into Lenore Dove and they reunite. She sadly dies from gumdrops.

Haymitch wakes up and is surrounded by a bunch of peacemakers. He is hooked up to things. Effie comes in and helps dress him for the recap of the games. Caesar greets him and the recap starts. Haymitch states how it’s not true inside and the ending is all off. It was changed for a narrative. Snow comes down and tells Haymitch to enjoy his homecoming.

Haymitch and Wellie look after each other. Silka eventually kills Wellie. They get into a fight against each other with axes. Haymitch eventually wins. The hovercraft goes all over them. Haymitch tries to throw something at the force field. He wants to die.

Maysilee is sadly killed by mutts. Haymitch calls her his sister. He attempts to help a girl Wellie who is up in a tree starving. Eventually he gets up to her. Someone sends them chocolate that they eat. Silka is at the bottom crying.

Haymitch and Mays are ambushed by the final Career tributes. While fleeing, they stumble upon three vulnerable Gamemakers fixing the arena's flower berm. Defying the Games' rules, Maysilee and Maritte (who joined the fray) kill the Gamemakers to directly strike at the Capitol. They get to the end of the road together.

Maysilee and Haymitch are attacked by the ladybugs. They try to get away and decide to make the hike to the cornucopia. As they’re doing that a porcupine goes on a rampage and kills 5 others. That makes it 5 tributes left.

A devastated Haymitch finds himself temporarily alone. Haymitch heads north to target the arena generator and encounters his fellow District 12 tribute, Maysilee Donner, and the two agree to align. Panache attacks the two of them. Maysilee shoots him with a dart in the throat.

Haymitch and Ampert meet a bunch of mutts that come into play. Ampert is eaten alive by them all. It appears that Haymitch along with the help of others has broken the arena… or so he thinks as he looks into the mountains.
