Deep division between diverse groups of people, however, which is what this is focusing on. Not so much (or any so far) with the romance. Started telling from Cameron's point of view in some chapters. (Were they doing that in last book?) Relies heavily on emotional investment from previous books. If you're still invested in the characters, you'll be fine. Otherwise will lose some of its spark from previous books.

Nice blend of features from a number of genres. Some familiar from historical fiction: royalty, noble houses, courtly intrigue, and they even went on progress (last I saw that was in Phillipa Gregory). However, clearly set in a future version of America (now a number of different countries). Technology is different. Magic powers have evolved.
