Ch 4 is so unbelievably techno-optimistic and individual inventor focused it refuses to bring up even the most known inventions and public works projects built by/funded by the US government pre-FDR. The Erie Canal, the Panama Canal, the Brooklyn bridge, the transcontinental railroad, most highways, roads and bridges before FDR were all built/largely funded by the US. I like the “let scientists work” stuff tho
