Author is lowkey racist and keeps calling herself an old woman despite being in her early/mid-thirties. Elizabeth Gilbert, it’s on sight.

Liz is in India sucking at meditation and making it everyone’s problem. I am determined to not have this book be a DNF, but good god the author makes it hard.

I was on board initially with how Liz started the India section. The feeling of arriving to a new location in the dark and getting to wake up somewhere totally new is unparalleled; it’s my favourite part of the yearly Adirondacks trip. But then instead of doing what she alluded (going to bed), Liz does a 180, prays at the diverse temple, and writes the phrase “colonized by his stillness”
Gdi Liz u were so close

Went to Italy to learn Italian and has just dropped out of her Italian class because she felt it was impeding her progress in learning Italian in the streets of ~*Italy*~. Author also throws around the term rape way too much for how little I read this time before I couldn’t take it anymore and needed a break before it annoyed me too much.

Next time will be starting her trip to India. I’m ready for racism abound

Starting off strong. She’s already had her first come to god moment and refuses to consult lawyers to get divorced. By the end of this book I will hate this woman, I can feel it.

message 1: by Austin (new)

Austin I read this book while working at a call center. I worked as the reservations department at a bunch of French hotels in Quebec. Nobody would call in the evenings and so I would bring a book to work and just read on my shifts. It was just about the sweetest gig imaginable. Then, one morning, I grabbed something random off my mom's bookshelf before my shift so I'd have anything to do, and it happened to be this book.

I read the full thing in one 9-hour shift where I maybe "worked" for 30 total minutes, and read the rest of it.

I distinctly remember being about halfway through the book and wishing that somebody would call to book a room so that I'd have an excuse to put the book down and not have to read it. Probably the only time in my life I have seriously wished for work.

That's how bad this book is. Fuck Elizabeth Gilbert and this "Oprah-bait" ass book.
