It's fascinating to learn the insider facts surrounding this iconic music group who continually broke new ground. Once they quit touring and turned to drugs albums like Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour took the world by storm.

While I knew John was a drug addict I had no idea he dropped acid daily for long periods of time though it's evident with tunes like I Am a Walrus, and numerous others

Whether you're a fan of this music or not, the narrative is on par with their musical genius which in my opinion has yet to be touched. That said, social commentary made by both John and Paul had audiences in the US and other countries outraged. This is the mark of the time period. Stand up or fall behind. Yee hah!

This being my first book about the Beatles, it's enlightening in many ways. Paul's creativity is associated with his openness towards all art forms and the people who created them. John, George and Ringo hung out together and Paul a bit of the outlier. Regardless of their differences there's no debate their impact on rock was monumental.

As one of the greatest composing duos, it's interesting that Lennon and McCartney both felt they each lived behind a coat of emotional armor. Their creative abilities both challenged and brought them close. It's clear John's drug taking and outlandish mindset was the counterbalance to Paul's regimen. A fascinating book by all means

For those unfamiliar with the early days of recording, musicians gathered in the studio and played tunes being recorded on a single track. With the advent of four track recording which was used in the Rubber Soul album, it allowed for ground breaking creativity. With tunes like We Can Work It Out, Day Tripper and others the Beatles hallmark took hold

The author moves from historical elements to a clinical approach for analyzing tunes the Beatles were known for; and while interesting in some respects, as a musician I feel its lacking

Unlike authors whose focus has been the music industry, Leslie's concise, fact filled narrative about the most iconic group in history is breathtaking..use of song titles for every chapter, the echo of 'yeah, yeah, yeah' can't be resisted

Truly remarkable. While many may disagree the Lennon/ McCartney team was without doubt the most influential of any in the industry. The author uses song titles for each chapter in an effort to show the evolution of the music. For those who may have seen the movie Nowhere Boy, you'll be happy to know the script uses facts about Lennon and the beginning of the Beatles
