On page 37, Barkan notes the online nature of the Republican talking points and how bizarre they would seem to the median voter. However, I'd argue that "online" had very much become a real place by 2024 and this also assumes that the median voter has a stable political identity. However, the comparison of Trump to Warhol in regard to image-making is apt.

i would say it's pretty good. liked a one-star review accusing it of overall being muddled and anti-political correctness not because I agree wholeheartedly but because I see that perhaps being a possibility. nonetheless, i think it paints the picture well of the atmosphere at the time and also goes into the nature of crafting an "authentic" political image. so i think it will probably be pretty good even if i may or may not be more pro-PC than the author. again, i wouldn't regard myself as the most woke person by a long shot so i may be dead wrong and agree with Barkan. I think the depiction of BLM could be seen as a little excessively cynical but he hasn't said anything outright anti-BLM yet. moreover, i think that because Barkan is good at talking about social dynamics, the wide scope that to some might feel "muddled" might actually make me enjoy the book more.
