1920’s novel by Jamaican-American novelist Claude McKay, which focuses on a newly disabled double amputee in Marseille. This has been on my list to read for “broadening the canon” and reading classics written by women and BIPOC, but I’m also glad that it’s a classic centering a Black man with a disability, as disabled characters rarely take center stage, and even more so in classics.
