Now the author feels confident enough that we understand the world of 1911 New York to not showcase her research every two sentences, the book has blossomed, the cuckoo-bananas aspects of the plot having more time to feature prominently.

A little showy with its research early on, but hopefully as we move into plot and not scene-setting, it calms down.
