Joel Rosenberg clearly did most of the writing here, since he used the same protagonists for this book as he did for the last three books of his own Guardians of the Flame series.
Fortunately, they work well in both places, and they're very strong characters, so it doesn't harm this book, but it was a bit of a surprise to see them again.

Interesting. I read this years ago, but I had not read Rosenberg, so did not affect my reading.
