So sad the book is coming to a close. Out of all the anti-war books I've read, this one feels so close to home. It isn't in the far world of WW1 and WW2. It's right here with guys that still breath.

"Lemon and Rat started goofing. They didn't understand about the spookyness. They were kids; they just didn't know. ... when he died, it was almost beautiful. The way the sun came and lifted him up and sucked him high into the trees"

The man understood words were insufficient. The problem had gone beyond discussion. ... what it came down to, stupidly, was a sense of shame.
