So far the poorest book by Sieńkiewicz, bordering to boring. Too much reference of Holy Jadwiga and her court, contempt of the teutonic knights and hardly any action.

Finally there is some action. Our hero decided for the lady of his heart (Danusia) rather than the impressive daughter of a local nobleman. He joins the court of the Duke of Masovia and almost gets killed by and aurochs during a hunt. Meanwhile the teutonic knight guest at the court plot how to abduct Danusia in order to presure her father into surrender.
