Yep. Rabbit's a jerkwad yet the book is a masterpiece.

Agree, this is a well-written novel about a selfish, immature person. But the second book is total garbage; I never went beyond that.
He's not even an unreliable narrator, just a dick. His "premise" seems relatable, I think that's where I get caught. Updike's style is worth the moral squirming though, even when it gets really sad.Also yeah the sequels stink.
