Ok so when a women reports to her boss the goings on of the women’s building and what is happening while she’s away, that’s gossip, but when a man does the exact same shit he’s a spy and skillfully keeping his employer informed, notably without the moral judgment of being a “gossip”

I love when a nonfiction book unearths a million rabbit holes that I must then immediately explore upon finishing said book. Devil in the White city has already given me a “further reading list” about 10 topics/books long. Unionization and working class movement of the late 1800s, American architecture of the 1800s, circuses/freakshows, origins of true crime fanaticism, AC vs DC electricity drama, and much more!

H. H. Holmes was a scammer for the love of the game, my guy couldn’t go two days without committing insurance fraud or writing fake checks. Buying hella bicycles on credit, reselling them, then not paying the creditors is objectively hilarious and should not be punishable.
