I’m very excited to read a new Sam Mariano book but also reluctant (I haven’t read my friends’ full reviews only slight spoilers and I am mostly going in blind) My reluctance is similar to most of my mutuals and that’s because the fate of Coastal Elite is keeping us on the edge with Dare and Aubrey’s fate!

Third time’s a charm 🤞- I feel bad because I was so excited to read a new Sam Mariano book (still didn’t read the complete reviews from my mutuals) - I want to give it my unbiased attention (alas I think I have guessed the twist and I don’t like some aspects 🫣)

I’m not sure … I think i might leave this book for a while… I just keep avoiding it, and I was so excited to read it… 😣maybe because there’s too much inner monologue and it all feels a bit scattered!? I barely managed to get to 38% 🤦🏻♀️😫

I’m restarting this, hopefully I will be more into it?! As I said I believe the beginning should have been more dramatic and later some things needed a bit more development… but beggars can’t be choosers -I’m glad I have a new Sam Mariano book and it appears that there’s no cheating or sharing in this one but there other darker stuff!

I read only 5 chapters but I will postpone it… this doesn’t start with a gut punch or a powerful hook (maybe if we were given the scene of that fatal night for the heroine… you know, at the beginning, for a bit more psychological build up, for her motivation to seem more justified…?) I don’t know… I guess I just have to chill and lower my expectations?!

While I hate that we can't get any clarity on what's going on with Dare\Aubrey\Hannah in Coastal Elites, you don't have to worry about anything like that in this one. However, there is a specific element that I don't want to spoil for you that I'm unsure how you'll feel, considering your stance on non-con and SA in general.

Thank you Lori! No worries, I’m just very passionate about some of my reads and likes and dislikes and although I might sound hypocritical I am capable of reading non-con and dubcon in a certain environment/framing, where the MMC is single-mindedly obsessed with her and the story gives you a hopeful, controlled environment where they find a positive ending together! I don’t like it when a book crosses (without TWs or proper tags!) into extreme horror, because that completely destroys the heroine’s mind and leaves her in permanent, hopeless disablement and servitude. I read dark romance for the survival and reclamation, not for total destruction of their partnership! I actually want to see the villain love and be completely consumed only with the heroine and never look at or touch other people -this is the ultimate dark romantic fantasy that I can read! So hopefully this will work🤞
Well....so...grrrr, I can't say anything without spoiling it, but let me just say....the logic here....lmao! Yeah, there just no way of saying anything without spoiling it, even though I think the twist is kind of obvious, but I kept waiting for it to feel justified and it just kind of never did to me. Regardless, I don't think it will trigger you or anything, but I'm curious as to see your take on it.
Well… I’m keeping my toes crossed! 🫣 🤭I really want a good dark romance… some of my favorite writers didn’t quite deliver recently, so this new one by Sam had me excited! Anyways I’m hoping we will get the audiobooks for Untouchable and Descent soon (that will at least even out the field if this ends up a disappointment!) 🫣
I know exactly what you mean and I hope you enjoy it! I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either.
