I think i’m also closing in on the fact that travel/ quest/“the friends we made along the way” kind of stories are just not for me.
Also the gore is not really saving it because sadly i think this type of humor in a violent fantasy world comes across a little corny to me 🫣

The politics around Alex being the empress feels secondary to the HAR HAR “getting one’s head chopped off is a very unpleasant way to die” ass humor

I know every book is contrived to get characters in a certain space for certain scenes, but the placement of the shipwreck in act 3 and splitting the characters up so certain groupings/ couples can have scenes together feel so transparent to me

And I’m a dummy so this is a petty complaint but there’s too many characters whose titles/names start with the letter B and I’m getting them confused lol

I love the thrall super power troupe. It reminds me of the sister’s power from IA’s hidden legacy series

“Cling to the lie, you never know…Lie all the way to the scaffold, lie with the rope around your neck, let them bury your lying corpse still sticking to its story.”
