I have been horribly behind on these but sitting in a big ol' chair and catching up felt like hanging out with a friend - what I've liked best about this so far (next to the thoughts about the book) has been Steinbeck's candidness on how up and down the writing process is. It's nice to see that no one has one clear process or experience.

i wish all great books had a companion journal like this. it's fascinating to peek into steinbeck's mind through these pages and to see his quirks but also his hopes and goals for his work.
