The difficulties of a relationship with religion derived from maternal love and teachings that vary so much from church to church. Everything is holy.

One can't even support her mother's beliefs without fanatic atheists going ballistic on them

And Gifty can no longer open up even though she yearns for connection :')

Somebody give poor Gifty a break (there's none coming, I know)

Children, in the end, don't understand that they live in a poor household. That their parents argue over spendings. Over the diaspora. It's all part of the tragedy.

Poverty breeds a special brand of trauma :')
