ok yeah yep this world and these characters and this prose are all so stunning and mysterious and sympathetic, what an incredible introduction to the story!!

after however many times ive picked this up and not been in the mood, i think this time is for real lol ive been in such a massive fantasy mood so it’s about time i knock this out.

first off, what an overwhelmingly beautiful prologue. oh my GOD. throws you right into the story and sets the scene for the journey youre about to embark on.
second, the PROSE. holy fucking shit. SO good.

im STUNNED. this world is so rich, colorful and lively. it feels so lived-in and real it almost seems like folklore passed down from long-lost ancestors. this is going to be enchanting.

uhhhh that was a LOT of new information that i barely understand but im totally here for it. this writing style is absolutely phenomenal so even if i dont understand whats happening right now, the writing is easy to absorb yet also very complex and interesting.

ok im ACTUALLY starting this now.

i was loving mistborn, but having listened to emergency skin yesterday i decided to pick this up instead for now for a few reasons: 1) i want to support more black authors because i sadly havent done well with that (mainly due to publishing houses and booktube sponsoring far more white authors) and 2) i ADORED jemisin’s writing in that short story.
