There’s something so similar between these 2 main characters. Both of them long for their father’s validation more than anything. While Lee wants to desperately find out what has happened to his mom, and bring her or her bones back to be in her vicinity once again, Sen is desperate to find out how to keep her family and her father safe from any revolt on Samurai.
It’s just so disheartening to see how they grovel and wish to be likable.
I wasn’t sure what made this book gothic, is it the picturization of his mom/ James being eaten by maggots?
It feel like I’m reading some kind of poetry, and I love that feeling. I don’t know how else to describe it. It is flowy and filled with emotion, and the kind of analogies that nails it down‼️
Is it just me or does anyone else feel like Hina probably knows something?
Also, was his father either explicitly or implicitly involved in the disappearance of his mother?
What was that scene where Lee’s mother being chased down by the police and Lee’s dad mean? Is his mother truly mentally disturbed, and Lee’s dad was worried about his safety??
Or was Lee’s dad just trying to faulty accuse his mom?
One thing is for sure, there’s something deeply odd with both his mom and him, which is quite unique to just the both of them. His dad could never understand. His dad is definitely not interested in facing Lee or being anywhere close to him. What made his father’s heart condition worse?
What’s the significance of the ocean?
What was that turtle doing in his suitcase that one night he went to Cambodia? Was that his mother? Did his mother turn into a turtle?
What was that story about the fisherman, the child and the turtle??🐢
