Homer definitely understood that one of the saddest things that could happen is to come home from 20 years of travel to find your dog neglected and suffering, and the dog recognizes you and then dies 😭

There's probably an answer but I've always wondered why Odysseus had to sail past Charybdis and/or Scylla. The book makes it sound like it's his first time encountering them, but presumably he passed them on his way to Troy? Or was there another route he took? Why can't he take that route?? Are Charybdis and Scylla a new thing??

It's absolutely wild that I can drive down the road in a car at 55mph listening to a recording of a British man reading a story written thousands of years ago by a blind poet, a story that has been translated into a language that didn't even exist when the story was first made.
