One thing I’m really liking about reading the Odyssey is how welcoming and hospitable the people are. Like, you can turn up at their door and they give you food and wine BEFORE asking your name. Even the guy that took care of the pigs was like “Ok, you’re a traveler, you look really ragged, lemme go kill a nice delicious pig and we can eat it together.” Like what?!? Why can’t we be like that??

Oh, and there are many times when the host (in the odyssey usually rich people) is like “please, just stay a little longer, don’t go home yet.” There was one time and Telemachus basically said “please don’t let your dad see me, because he’s going to be hospitable and invite me to stay in his house longer. And the amount of gifts they got?? Just for washing up on their island? I love this.
