HES CONFESSED! YOURE GOING TO JAIL RASKOLNIKOV.
Also, I have found a character worse than petty ol Luzhin. Svidrigaïlov is officially the worst person in this book, hands down. Like even from a moral standpoint. Svidrigaïlov has (supposedly) murdered his wife of seven years and attempted to remarry. His new bride would have been 16. Dudes dead now though, so that won’t be happening.

I did it. I finished Crime and Punishment in…six days???
It’s over double the words of a typical adult novel (~200k), even if the total page count for my copy is 542. I rushed a good portion of it because I needed to have it read by Wednesday.
I’d say there’s 3 plots (main and sub) total. All of them intersect at one point and it’s insane
I do like it, but it felt too long for a 4 star rating. 3.5 stars.

there’s so much tea in this section. Probably because of Luzhin.
I dislike that man more than the actual murderer who literally admitted to killing to see whether or not he was an extraordinary person, able to be like Napoleon and kill without batting an eye.
Luzhin is worse because he is petty.

“Now you’re going to a birthday party?”
“To a funeral.”
I can’t tell if Porfiry knows or if he’s just gaslighting gatekeeping and girlbossing his way through that interview. May the remaining shreds of Raskolnikov’s sanity rest in peace.

We’ve now reached a healthy mix of Raskolnikov genuinely losing his mind, other people’s perspectives, and attempts at justifying murder.

“This is the end.”
Dude. Raskolnikov. My guy. We have over 300 pages left in this novel. This is not the end. You liar. Like I know lying comes as a default with the whole “I just committed a double homicide,” but you don’t gotta lie to yourself.
Also, there is so much drinking. Gotta love Dostoyevsky for sticking to the vibe: Vodka and sadness.

In every chapter of this book they’re either drunk, plotting murder, or murdering.
I think this is a bit more my kind of book lol
