as someone who doesn’t care for LA at all, i find the constant “oh LA is so cool!” very performative. heck i get annoyed when people stretch the “oh that’s new york for you” as well. yes it is fun to see those times, that culture through babitz’s lens. but i also feel like she’s waxing poetic about some very shallow stuff. but that’s just me- i’ve never been drawn to male centered stuff anyway
